I entered UCLA a Mechanical Engineering major, then switched to Computer Science before landing on Climate Science.

I received a high school diploma from one of the most academically intense high schools in California.

I'm actually the first at UCLA (and in the country) to graduate with an official Climate Science degree!


Jobs & Internships

DigDeep: Right to Water Project is an environmental justice non-profit that provides running water in homes and schools primarily in the Navajo Nation.

• Synthesized information about Navajo water installations into donor reports
• Created donor stewardship material for the Development Coordinator
• Increased privacy for recipients of donations by creating a new SEO system

Desert Nights is weekly concert series at a famous Sunset Strip hotel.

• Posted photographs and videos that I took at weekly concerts and edited, which increased follower count 40% (1K to 1.4K)
• Ensured larger events went smoothly through setting up and paying artists

Pair of Thieves is an apparel company.

• Increased company visibility via social media, grew Instagram followers 19% (37K to 44K)
• Shipped and packaged promotional materials to raise brand awareness
• Helped organize a promotional marathon event (ordered merch, found artists, etc)

Coriander Restaurant was a high quality affordable American restaurant in Vermont that unfortunately closed after I worked there.

• Welcomed guests in a friendly manner and ensured all customers were attended to and pleased with their experience
• Informed customers of menu specials, took patrons' orders, and served food and beverages including beer and wine
• Settled payments and cleaned the dining area at the end of the night

The UCLA Institute of Transportation Studies is a research center for transportation planning and policy.

• Reviewed data for Caltrans Statewide Transit Strategic Plan
• Researched California's public transportation network

Calibr, an acronym for the California Institute for Biomedical Research, is a biomedical research laboratory non-profit that has since been acquired by Scripps Research.

• Organized purchase orders, EH&S documents, and chemical safety files
• Managed vast chemical library and provided scientists with requested compounds
• I primarly worked in the Compound Management Laboratory, but also worked in the office under the Director of Lab Operations


UCLA Academic Research & Extracurriculars

UCLA Radio is UCLA's official campus radio station, and it is entirely student-run.

• Hired, trained, and co-managed 40 interns/quarter out of 250-400 applicants
• Led information sessions, taught weekly intern classes, and revised curriculum
• Held multiple radio shows, interviewed guests, and podcasted episodes (including editing audio myself)

UCLA Campus Events Commission is a part of student government that organizes free film screenings, concerts, and speakers for UCLA students.

• Distributed tickets and directed crowds for UCLA’s biggest annual concert, Bruin Bash
• Assisted in building two Bruin Bash websites which received over 80,000 hits each (bruinbash.ucla.edu)

An NSF-funded project, "UCLA's Desert Dust and Climate Change Outreach Program intends to inspire students to pursue careers in the sciences by exposing them to real life applications of science and showing them the impact research results can have on their lives. This lesson series consists of four hands-on lessons that can complement units covering climate change in Earth Science courses."

• Overhauled science curriculum to make lessons clearer and more approachable
• Set program into motion by recruiting and coordinating with a local school (San Fernando Senior High School, the first user of the lesson plan)

UCLA IRI, which has since changed its name to Internet Research Initiative, selects 12 students annually (I was in the first cohort, 2016-17) and is directed by Internet pioneer Leonard Kleinrock.

• I analyzed digital "echo chambers" especially regarding political journalism and identified solutions to the problem of insular online communities
• My resulting Quad Chart (which I presented at a culminating review) is available as a PowerPoint slide from the "Prize Winners" page (scroll down to my name)
• My mentor was a faculty member of UCLA's Information Science graduate department


Volunteer Positions & Projects

In the heat of the George Floyd protests, the National Lawyers Guild LA chapter created a hotline for protestors to receive free legal support for the many arrests and police brutality incidents.

• Connected callers to pro bono lawyers to receive free assistance with arrest charges
• Aided callers in finding jail locations of loved ones arrested at BLM protests

Climate Interviews is a space I founded spotlighting the stories of underrepresented people in climate, particularly femme and non-binary people.

• Created the website and social media accounts, researched and reached out to potential interview guests
• The Instagram account grew to 122 followers in less than a week

The Climate Mobilization is a climate change advocacy non-profit that relies on grassroots organizing.

• Used EveryAction CRM to monitor potential sign-ups for potential new organizers, then called them to recruit these people to attend an information session
• Took notes at information sessions marking potential areas of interest for new organizers

An article in the UCLA College Magazine spotlighted me in relation to the new Climate Science major! (Summer 2019 Issue, piece written by Lisa Garibay)
